- Wilderness development in the National Park theme trail
To get to the Hennerweg, you have to cross the main road from the National Park House above the camper van site and enter the forest. Initially, the trail follows the Einsiedlerweg, but after a short stretch it continues to the right (orange markings).
Theme trails with six stations provide variety in addition to the constantly changing nature all year round. It ranges from early flowers such as daphne and cowslip to the discoloured autumn leaves of beech trees and rustic oaks. It allows you to learn more about the important role of deadwood or the predominant tree species of the Thayatal, peep through peepholes or feel in touch boxes.
The Hennerweg leads past an event area that is used for nature experiences during our school events. Children are welcome to continue building and playing here. Important: Please supervise the children and watch out for potentially falling structures! Only existing structures may be converted or dismantled and no further branches of trees may be torn off or plants and leaves picked.
At the vantage point, you can not only enjoy magnificent views of Hardegg and the Thayatal, but also marvel at mighty copper beeches. Some of them have already fallen over, giving an insight into advanced wilderness development.
On the return route, take the path to the left at the crossroads. This leads to an oversized saw - another point along the theme path. Here you can find out everything worth knowing about the nature conservation and rewilding measures of the national park.
Hikers finally return via a field path to the National Park House, which invites you to visit the exhibition or to explore the Waldviertel Farm and Herb Garden, the European wildcat enclosure and the adventure playground in more detail.
The Hennerweg is suitable for prams. It is not asphalted and contains a slight incline when proceeding in the return direction.
- In the oversized town chronicle book at the vantage point over Hardegg, you can leaf through interesting facts about the history of the town and Hardegg Castle.
